The U.S. Postal Service has renewed its lease for the Kew Gardens Post Office on Austin Street.
Congresswoman Grace Meng announced Tuesday that the lease for the 83-30 Austin St. location has been renewed for five years from Aug. 1, 2021 to July 31, 2026.
The existing lease is set to expire on July 31, 2021.
The Kew Gardens Post Office has been located at its Austin Street address for about 70 years.
Meng reached out to the Postal Service after some residents expressed concerns that the lease may not be renewed.
This is not the first time that residents have expressed concern that the lease wouldn’t be renewed. Elected officials have been involved in renegotiating the facility’s lease over the past 20 years. Meng got involved in 2016 to work out the existing 5 year lease.
“This decision to renew the lease for the Kew Gardens Post Office is great news for the community,” Meng said in a statement.
“I thank the Postal Service for its commitment to this facility, and to those who live in the area. This post office provides important postal services to neighborhood residents at a convenient location, and I’m pleased that it will continue to serve the community for years to come.”

Great. Now they need to keep it clean and staffed. It’s pathetic. They don’t even shovel snow from the sidewalk.
I agree!
Thanks for keeping our local Post Office open! Our community really needs this service!
