We spoke to Anthony Miranda, candidate for Queens Borough President, last week.
Miranda, a retired police sergeant and the only Latino in the race, is one of five candidates vying for the position in next week’s Democratic primary.
We discussed police reform, COVID-19, community boards and jobs.
The other candidates in the June 23 primary are Costa Constantinides, Elizabeth Crowley, Donovan Richards and Dao Yin .

A pair of Queens seniors marked their 100th birthdays with a special joint birthday party at the Atria Senior Living center in Forest Hills on Wednesday, celebrating reaching a century among family and fellow residents.
Two people were injured in a motor vehicle collision involving a Department of Sanitation vehicle on Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills on Tuesday morning.
At approximately 6:20 a.m., a 61-year-old woman was driving a 2019 Lexus northbound on Queens Boulevard when a 2017 DSNY Mack truck, operated by a 57-year-old man, collided with her vehicle while turning westbound on 77th Avenue.
A convicted sex offender from Rego Park pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child and admitted to soliciting and receiving sexually explicit images and videos from four young girls during a plea hearing in the federal courthouse in Central Islip on Friday. Anthony Pangallo, 41, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years’ imprisonment and up to 50 years in prison.
According to court filings and statements during the plea proceeding, Pangallo was initially arrested on May 20, 2021, at his Rego Park residence, on state charges filed in Westport, Connecticut. Those charges, which remain pending, involved a 15-year-old victim whom Pangallo met online and manipulated into sending him sexually explicit images of herself.
