NYPD: 79-year-old Man Dead After Being Hit by Car in Kew Gardens Hills

A 79-year-old pedestrian is dead after being struck by a car on Jewel Avenue Monday night.

Abdul Jamil of Kew Gardens Hills was hit by a 2015 Honda Accord while crossing Jewel Avenue near 150th Street at around 10 p.m. May 7 and died Tuesday.

The driver, a 31-year-old man, was traveling east along Jewel Street when he struck Jamil near 150th Street.

Jamil was thrown to the pavement and sustained severe head injuries. Emergency responders brought him to NY Presbyterian Hospital of Queens, where he later died.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that Jamil had been crossing the street outside of the crosswalk and against the walk signal. The driver remained on the scene.

There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
