Kweller Prep, a supplemental education company that provides entrance exam preparation for competitive middle schools, specialized high schools and ivy league universities, has expanded and relocated its Forest Hills headquarters into the heart of the neighborhood.

The tutoring company’s new center of operations, which opened on Sept. 1, sits above the Midway Movie Theater at 108-22 Queens Blvd. and occupies the entire second floor. The school-zoned facility was previously occupied by Ferrara’s Beauty School.

The new location allows staff and students to work within 6,200 square feet of newly-furnished space. This reflects an increase of 1,700 square feet from the center’s previous site at 104-40 Queens Blvd., where Kweller Prep launched and operated since 2004.

Frances Kweller, the company’s namesake and founder, said the idea to expand her Forest Hills headquarters was years in the making, and developed out of growth in enrollment.

“The search for an adequate, larger, school-zoned learning center took three years, but it was worth it,” Kweller said. “The new location is only steps away from multiple bus and subway stations, so it will be easy for everyone to get to.”

Kweller added that the expansion will also allow her to give back to her native Forest Hills community.

“I’m excited about the community impact it will have. I grew up here, and now I run a tutoring business in the same neighborhood,” she said. “This is something our community needed when I was growing up and I am now honored to provide.”

Kweller Prep offers year-round tutoring services for students in middle school, high school and college. They also offer test preparation for students in grades 3 to 12, with some courses lasting as long as 14 weeks.

More information on the different courses that are offered can be found at www.kwellerprep.com or by calling 1-800-631-1757.

Humble Beginnings and Future Success

Frances Kweller, a graduate of NYU’s Steinhardt School of Education and Hofstra University School of Law, originally founded the tutoring business shortly after she completed her post-graduate studies.

Initially based in her parent’s apartment in Forest Hills, Kweller has since grown her company into a nationally-recognized brand that has two physical locations, with the second being in midtown, Manhattan.

Kweller Prep now staffs nearly 100 tutors, and is recognized as a certified WBE business and licensed vendor for the NYC Department of Education.

The company currently has over 20 textbooks published under its name, which are available for purchase online through Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The success of her company has resulted in Kweller being offered speaking opportunities at different media outlets.

“I recently appeared on the Fox Business National News Channel, where I was able to weigh in on the recent college admissions scandal,” she said.

The Forest Hills entrepreneur says her achievements have also been reflected through the success of her students.

“Sebastian Acevedo, a former student at Kweller Prep, was one of only 33 Hispanic students to place into Stuyvesant High School in 2018,” she said. “He was interviewed by Brooklyn 12 news and the New York Post for his achievements.”

Kweller says that she is proud of these past successes and is ready to continue growing the company.

“I am now ready to solicit corporate sponsors to help students participate in our programs free of charge,” she said. “I also want to open a day school, and provide even more academic grad school prep options for LSATs, DATs, MCATs, and GREs, right here in Forest Hills.”

“With Kweller Prep’s new expansion, the sky is the limit,” she added.

Op-ed | New York’s ground lease co-ops: Our families can’t wait any longer

Jan. 14, 2025 By Michael Tang

Last December brought a long-awaited victory for New York City. Our City Council adopted the historic City of Yes housing plan, paving the way for more than 80,000 new homes by 2040 with the promise of affordability. As a longtime resident of Flushing, Queens, I naturally welcomed the news – it’s a much-needed reprieve for New Yorkers as housing costs continue to soar in the midst of an unparalleled housing crisis. But entering 2025 on the heels of this win, we residents at  Murray Hill Cooperative remain at risk — our lives are virtually unchanged because we belong to the last class of unprotected “tenants” as ground lease co-op residents. Without legislative action, more than 25,000 New Yorkers face the threat of losing their homes — homes that we own — to landowners seeking to raise our ground rent to astronomical rates.
