Man struck dead while crossing Van Wyck Expressway in Kew Gardens Hills

A man was killed while trying to walk across the Van Wyck Expressway in Kew Gardens Hills yesterday.

The victim, a 41-year-old man, was hit around 4:50 p.m. by an SUV while trying to cross the northbound lane of the Van Wyck Expressway near Jewel Avenue.

The man was seen jumping over the median and walking across the roadway before being struck by a red Subaru Forrester SUV. The driver stayed on the scene after hitting the man.

When police arrived on the scene, the man was unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma to his body, and EMS pronounced him dead on the scene.

No arrests have been made, and the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is looking in to the accident.
