via Chabad of Forest Hills North

Dec. 5, 2018 By Meghan Sackman

All lights will be illuminated on an 18-foot menorah to celebrate the eighth night of Chanukah at Yellowstone Park this upcoming Sunday.

The “Chanukah on the Park” event, which is expected to have over 300 guests this year, will take place in Yellowstone Municipal Park, located at 68-01 Yellowstone Blvd., at 6 p.m on Dec. 9.

Candles will be lit at 6:30 p.m. by way of an FDNY cherry-picker, with music, dancing, and much more to follow.

A huge coin drop from 30 feet above ground will take place, with Chanukah clowns and dreidel mascots to meet and interact with guests. Glow-in-the-dark glasses and glow sticks will also be given out, and attendees can also take part in a grand raffle.

Food and beverages from JJ’s Holy Cow will be available, along with fresh jelly donuts.

The event is free but requires an online RSVP at www.ChabadFHN.com

The event is sponsored by Chabad Forest Hills North and is also made possible by the NYC Parks and Recreation Department, FDNY, and the 112th Precinct.

Holden calls out Mayor Adams—will he reopen ICE office on Rikers Island and tackle migrant crime?

One day after Mayor Eric Adams expressed his willingness to collaborate with the incoming Trump administration on addressing the migrant crisis and signaled a readiness to meet with former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) head Tom Homan, Council Member Robert Holden called on the mayor to reopen the ICE office on Rikers Island.

Holden, who represents District 30 in Queens, which encompasses Maspeth, Middle Village, and parts of Glendale, Ridgewood, Elmhurst, and Rego Park, has been advocating for changes to the city’s sanctuary policies since July. In a letter, he previously urged the mayor to roll back laws that restrict local law enforcement agencies—including the NYPD, Department of Correction, and Department of Probation—from cooperating with ICE.
