A 79-year-old man has died after being attacked by a group of teens inside a Woodhaven golf course last week.
William Hinchey, a Whitestone resident, got into an argument with a number of teenage males who trespassed onto the Forest Park Golf Course, located at 101 Forest Park Dr., on Sept. 8.
One of the teens then shoved him to the ground causing him to break his hip, authorities said. The 79-year-old had problems with his heart and recently had a stent put in, according to reports.
Hinchey was found unconscious by police later that day when officers responded to a 911 call at around 3:15 p.m. EMS transported him to Jamaica Hospital.
The senior was then moved to North Shore University Medical Center and died three days later on Sept. 11, according to police. The cause of his death is unknown and will ultimately be determined by the Medical Examiner, cops said.
Hinchey, who was a caretaker at the course, approached the group of teens to stop them from stealing a flag pin from the 15th hole, according to the New York Daily News.
A verbal dispute ensued and Hinchey was pushed to the ground before the teens–who were on bicycles–rode off, the publication reported.
The day after the assault, Council Member Bob Holden said that this type of behavior should not be tolerated.
“The city cannot keep moving in this direction, and the mayor and governor must crack down on lawlessness,” Holden said in a Sept. 9 Facebook post.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Reopen schools. Get these kids back in the classroom.
If it is the same group of approximately 15-16 kids they turned on Metropolitan Ave off of Woodhaven Blvd. They were riding through the streets blocking traffic and menacing people along the avenue headed east towards Jamaica. Not sure if this helps but many people saw and witnessed their activity but nothing was done. I hope some justice comes of this.
