The family of 23-year-old Justin Diaz expressed outrage that his accused killer, Michael Peña, was ordered released from Rikers Island on Friday, two weeks after he was remanded into custody without bail following his arraignment in Queens Supreme Court.
A Queens grand jury indicted Peña, a former FDNY firefighter from Oakland Gardens on manslaughter and DWI charges for a pre-dawn collision that killed Diaz on Northern Boulevard in East Elmhurst on February 26.
