A 16-year-old girl who was a passenger on a moped is in critical condition after she was struck by the driver of a car in Glendale Monday.

The teen was on a moped that was being driven by a 15-year-old boy along Cooper Avenue when it collided with a 2021 Mazda CX-30 at around 3:15 p.m., according to police.

Video footage released by CBS New York shows the Mazda driver, a 30-year-old man, making a left turn from 88th Street onto Cooper Avenue seconds before it slams into the 2021 Yamaha moped. The moped driver was attempting to go through the intersection. It is unclear whether he had the light.

The teens were thrown off the moped in the crash, and hit the ground, police said.

When police arrived on the scene, they found the teen girl with severe head trauma while the moped driver had injuries to his right leg, police said.

The 16-year-old girl was transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in critical condition. Police did not have any update on her condition as of Tuesday morning.

The 15-year-old moped driver was transported by EMS to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in stable condition.

Meanwhile, the Mazda driver and his front-seat passenger, a 27-year-old woman, remained at the scene until police arrived. The pair were then transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where they were treated and released.

The investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad. There have been no arrests.

The collision comes at time when several crashes have taken place in the district.

In fact, a number of Queens lawmakers are having a press conference today to call on the city to improve road safety in the area. The conference was planned prior to the latest crash.

Queens Council Member Robert Holden, State Senator Joe Addabbo and Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar are holding the press conference at the intersection of Cypress Avenue and Cooper Avenue where a pedestrian was struck last week.

A video of the graphic incident went viral online. The local officials will be joined by DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez.

Ban the use of these of these mopeds and ebikes. Confiscate them. Issue summons to the operators. They’re a menace.
