A man is dead and three others are injured after a wild shooting in Elmhurst Sunday afternoon – in what police are investigating as a possible gang-related incident.
The broad daylight shooting erupted outside a house at 95-23 41st Ave. at around 1:35 p.m. when two unidentified suspects on a moped opened fire at the victims, police said.
Edwin Naula, 28, who lived at the 41st Avenue residence, was shot multiple times in the body, police said. He was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst where he was pronounced dead.
Three other men were also hit during the incident including a 32-year-old who was shot in the torso, a 29-year-old who was shot in the face and arm, as well as a 36-year-old who was shot in the hand. All three victims were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and are listed as being in stable condition.
The two alleged shooters fled the location on the moped southbound on Warren Street, according to the NYPD. Police were unable to provide a description of the assailants.
Police Commissioner Sewell was at the scene late Sunday afternoon.
A video of the immediate aftermath of the shooting shows some of the victims being aided by police and first responders. The video was posted by @NY_Scoop, a social media page that posts about crime and traffic-related incidents in New York.
Many residents are on edge following the incident, noting that the area is no longer safe.
“Here has been very dangerous lately,” one neighbor told ABC7. “It’s not safe.”
