An 86-year-old woman is dead and three men injured, including two firefighters, as a result of a two-alarm house fire in Rego Park on Tuesday night.

The FDNY received a call about the blaze that broke out inside a two-story home at 85-48 66th Ave. just before 11 p.m. and found the brick residence engulfed in flames. A second-alarm was transmitted soon afterward bringing 106 firefighters and EMS personnel from 25 units, who filled the block between Fitchett Street and Woodhaven Boulevard.
“Our units responded within five minutes and they were met with heavy fire on the first and second floor of this private dwelling,” FDNY Deputy Chief Christopher Paolicelli said. “They made an aggressive interior attack. Unfortunately, we did have one civilian fatality.”
The fire was brought under control at 12:05 a.m. and firefighters found Rosemary Monoco inside. She was pronounced dead at the scene. EMS rushed a 56-year-old man to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center where he was listed in serious but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries, according to the FDNY.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The cause of the fatal blaze is under investigation by FDNY fire marshals.
