Cuban Restaurant To Open On Queens Blvd, At the Former ‘Family Restaurant’ Location

110 Queens Blvd. when it was occupied by The Family

Dec. 4, 2017 By Tara Law

The owners of a Manhattan restaurant known for its live music, mojitos and traditional Cuban cuisine are opening a Forest Hills location.

Guantanamera, which will offer a broad menu of traditional Cuban dishes such as paella and ropa vieja, will be opening on Dec. 8 at 110-80 Queens Blvd., the location of the former Italian restaurant The Family that closed last year.

The 70-seat restaurant and bar will have a similar menu to its Hells Kitchen location, which opened in 2005.

Co-owner Angelo Sanchez said that he highly recommends the “fabulous” lechon asado, suckling pig with congri (black beans and rice), boiled cassava (a root vegetable) and topped with garlic sauce.

Besides food, Guantanamera will also offer a full bar, complete with specialty cocktails and a wide selection of rum. Guests will also be offered complimentary hand rolled cigars.

In the evenings, the restaurant staff will clear part of the dining room for salsa, rumba and cha-cha music.

The restaurant will open Friday at 4 p.m., and a live band will perform starting at 9 p.m.

The regular hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday to Saturday.

The musicians will perform Tuesday to Sunday from 9 p.m. to close.
