Affordable housing lottery opens in Kew Gardens, rent starts at $1,522 a month

Jan. 30, 2024 By Ethan Marshall A total of 13 affordable units are up for grabs at the Metropolitan Senior Apartments in Kew Gardens, with monthly rents ranging from $1,522-$1,937. The affordable units are part of an 8-story mixed-use building at 132-77 Metropolitan Ave. In total there will be 40 residences in the building, with 27 being market rate. The city has opened a lottery for the 13 affordable units. Two of them are studio, eight are one-bedroom and three are two-bedroom. The city-wide appeal led by New York City’s Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) comes in response to Adams slashing the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs budget. In November, the mayor slashed DCLA funding by $9.3 million in his “Program to Eliminate the Gap (PEG).” Most of these cuts directly affected CIGs.
