Police Collar Two Teens on Gang Assault Charges for Beatdown of Man in Middle Village

Suspects (NYPD)

July 28, 2021 By Allie Griffin

Police have collared two young teens who allegedly jumped a man out walking his dog in Middle Village last week.

Officers arrested a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old on charges of gang assault Tuesday. The NYPD didn’t release their names because they are minors.

The two boys were part of a large group of teenagers that allegedly assaulted a 44-year-old man Friday night near Juniper Valley Park.

The teens were setting off fireworks and yelling at the corner of 75th Street and Juniper Boulevard North, when the man — reportedly an off-duty firefighter — confronted them about the noise just before 10 p.m., police said.

The teens argued with the man and then began throwing punches, police said.

Videos posted to social media and obtained by the New York Post show several of the teenagers push the 44-year-old to the ground and repeatedly punch and kick him.

The unnamed victim told the Post that there were at least a hundred kids near the park and one of them hit him in the back of the head with a glass bottle.

The teens ran off when an ambulance pulled up to the scene, the videos show. The victim refused medical attention despite suffering bruising, cuts and pain, police said.

The NYPD released photos of three suspects following the brutal attack. The department didn’t specify which two of the three were arrested.
