Community donates handsomely to family of 13-year-old girl killed on subway tracks

Dina Kadribasic

April 14, 2017 By Hannah Wulkan

After a 13-year-old girl was struck and killed by an R train in Rego Park earlier this month, family friends started a fundraising campaign to help support the girl’s family.

On April 2, 13-year-old Dina Kadribasic died after an oncoming R train hit her while she tried to retrieve her dropped phone from the tracks at the 63rd Drive-Rego Park station.

Now, her mother’s coworkers at Shear Bliss NYC Salon in Kips Bay have launched a GoFundMe campaign to support Kadribasic’s family and to help fund an awareness campaign about the dangers of jumping on to the tracks at a subway station.

“We would like to extend our deepest sympathy and have created this fund in helping support a grieving family,” the page reads, referring to Kadribasic’s mother as “Our dearest friend, our sweetest coworker, an amazing woman and mother of two children.”

The campaign was launched on April 4, two days after Kadribasic died, and has raised more than $33,341 from 359 people towards its $50,000 goal as of Friday afternoon.

Many of the donors also commented on the page offering condolences to the family.
