75-year old struck by car in Rego Park, driver arrested

A 75-year-old woman was hospitalized with severe injuries last night when she was hit by a turning vehicle in Rego Park.

According to police, the 75-year-old Rego Park resident was crossing 63rd Drive at 99th Street around 10 p.m. last night when a 2001 Dodge Ram van made a left turn on to 63rd Drive and hit her.

The victim suffered severe head injuries and is in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital.

The driver, 43-year-old Rene Hernandez of Rego Park, remained on the scene and was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and failure to yield to a pedestrian.
