New York City Curfew Set to 8 p.m., Follows Looting

New York City will have another curfew tonight — but three hours earlier than Monday’s after looters smashed store windows and stole pricey items for a second day in a row.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced last night that New Yorkers must be off city streets by 8 p.m. Tuesday.

“I’ve spoken with [NYPD] Commissioner Shea and we’ve decided there should be a curfew again … and we want to extend that curfew beginning at 8:00 PM,” de Blasio said.

Organized groups of looters used crowbars and other items to smash windows of storefronts along 5th Avenue following a peaceful protest against police brutality and the killing of George Floyd, a black man, at the hands of a white Minneapolis officer.

The looters broke into Best Buy, Nike, Aldo Microsoft, Michael Kors and Nintendo stores in Rockefeller Center before Monday’s 11 p.m. curfew, according to the New York Post.

The night earlier, people tore down boards and smashed the glass of high-end stores, like Chanel, in Soho — which prompted yesterday’s original curfew.

The chaos that repeated last night is what prompted the mayor to make tonight’s curfew earlier — and before dark.

“The idea of going to 8:00 PM is it’s still light out,” de Blasio told NY1. “And that’s really what we saw this evening and last night, is when it got dark is when people attempted to do this kind of activity.”

Police officers will also be working 12-hour shifts to keep the NYPD presence high.

“We just will not accept this kind of criminal activity in New York City,” de Blasio said.

Essential workers, members of the media and people in need of emergency medical help are exempt from the curfew.

Maybe he can do another one of his press conferences talking about how crime is down and this is the safest big city! No need for prisons! Please everybody, do not look to Corey Johnson as our savior from this mess. He is another do nothing, maybe even worse than deBlasio. Instead of vowing to fight back against the looting and arson destroying the place, his big talking point today is banning the use of chokehold’s. Their priorities are so out of whack, like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic! Stop coddling criminals, watch the footage being posted online of the last few nights, police being run over, cars burned, it’s disgusting. We need law and order restored and I have absolutely no faith in democratic leadership of this city and I am a Democrat, will not vote for them anymore.

With US Open done, Kantu serves up winning brunch in Forest Hills

Sep. 9, 2025 By Claude Solnik

Brunch, or at least breakfast, is a fairly common offering across New York City restaurants. And these morning meals often follow basic rules and menus with fairly similar offerings such as eggs, traditional omelets and maybe a Mimosa. When it comes to good food and, in particular, brunches that depart from the usual, Kantu really can do.

Rego Park sex offender pleads guilty to charges of sexually exploiting young girls on Long Island: Feds

A convicted sex offender from Rego Park pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child and admitted to soliciting and receiving sexually explicit images and videos from four young girls during a plea hearing in the federal courthouse in Central Islip on Friday. Anthony Pangallo, 41, faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years’ imprisonment and up to 50 years in prison.

According to court filings and statements during the plea proceeding, Pangallo was initially arrested on May 20, 2021, at his Rego Park residence, on state charges filed in Westport, Connecticut. Those charges, which remain pending, involved a 15-year-old victim whom Pangallo met online and manipulated into sending him sexually explicit images of herself.
