Dick’s Sporting Goods to open Forest Hills location March 8

Feb. 21, 2017 By Hannah Wulkan

A new sporting goods store will open in Forest Hills next month.

Sporting goods chain Dick’s will be opening at 73-25 Woodhaven Boulevard on March 8, and will have a three-day-long grand opening event from March 10th through March 12 to celebrate the occasion.

The store, which will be Dick’s first location in Queens, is opening in the old Sports Authority location. The grand opening event will include giveaways and prizes, as well as a meet-and-greet with former Mets and Yankees right-fielder Darryl Strawberry.

The new location is opening following the company’s buyout of the Sports Authority brand after that company went bankrupt last year.

The new store will be the second New York City location, with the only other location on Staten Island. It will be the 678th Dick’s store in the country.

“We look forward to celebrating the grand opening of five new stores in three different states,” said Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Dick’s Sporting Goods Lauren Hobart in a statement. “Having a presence in these cities will allow us to better-serve the athletes and outdoor enthusiasts who live there. These will be our first stores in Davenport and Queens, so we hope the community joins us for the celebrations that we have planned.”

The new store will employ about 100 people. During its opening weekend the store will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on March 10th and 11th, and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on March 12th.
