A Jewish organization in Rego Park has launched a campaign to strengthen morale in the Jewish community amid recent anti-Semitic attacks.

Chabad of Rego Park, a Russian Jewish community organization located at 97-17 64th Rd., introduced its “Secure Home” campaign on Wednesday.

The organization’s staff will provide and properly place Mezuzahs—scrolls inscribed on parchment containing a Jewish prayer—on the doors of Jewish homes in Rego Park upon request.

Breina Horvitz, secretary for Chabad of Rego Park, said Mezuzahs provide security and assurance.

“Mezuzahs keep you protected whether you’re at home or in the streets,” Horvitz said. “So many bad things are happening in our community, we want people to feel assured—like they’re not alone out there and that God is watching over them.”

A Mezuzah must be written by a trained scribe and hung on the right side of each doorway in a home—excluding the bathroom.

Horovitz said the organization has a scribe who will write each Mezuzah free of charge to residents who request one. The scribe will also visit each home with volunteers, to verify Mezuzahs already hung outside Jewish households.

“We’re going out and helping to show people how to properly place each Mezuzah and making sure current ones aren’t ruined from the rain or torn or things like that,” Horovitz said.

Interested residents can contact Rabbi Eli Blokh from Chabad of Rego Park at (718) 393-3085.

Before you do this and if you live in a Cooperative Housing Unit, please check with your management company first, often the Cooperatives require and direct that only the Super can install a Mezuzah, due to the fact that door frames are metal

The New York City Council passed a landmark bill on Wednesday, aiming to relieve renters of paying hefty broker fees — a cost that will now fall on the party who hires the listing agent. Known as the FARE Act (Fairness in Apartment Rentals), the legislation passed with a veto-proof majority of 42-8, despite opposition from Republicans and conservative Democrats.
