Vireo, located at 89-55 Queens Blvd (GMaps)

Jan. 13, 2017 By Hannah Wulkan

A medical marijuana company with an outpost in Elmhurst was approved to start the first home delivery program in the state earlier this week.

Vireo Health, a dispensary with a distribution center located by the Queens Center Mall, will soon offer a program bringing medical marijuana directly to their homebound patients’ doors in all five boroughs of the city, as well as Long Island and Westchester.

The company plans to launch the program in the next 90 days, with pricing and other details released in the coming weeks.

“New Yorkers have increasingly come to expect home delivery and we plan on leveraging ‘last mile’ supply chain technologies to meet and exceed patient expectations,” said CEO of Vireo Health of New York Ari Hoffnung in a statement.

In planning for the home delivery program, the company focused heavily on security. All deliveries will be made by two Vireo employees and their vehicles will be fitted with GPS technology and other safety measures, according to the company.

“Day-in and day-out our goal at Vireo Health of New York is to provide the best possible care and service to our patients,” said Dr. Stephen Dahmer, Vireo Health’s Chief Medical Officer in a statement. “Home delivery will not only help us to improve upon current services, but also expand our reach to those patients who are unable to travel.”
