Manhattan Man Pleads Guilty to Homophobic Attack at Forest Hills Subway

Allasheed Allah of Manhattan (NYPD)

Oct. 3, 2019 By Allie Griffin

A Manhattan man who was arrested last year for assaulting a 20-year-old woman for being gay in a Forest Hills subway station pleaded guilty yesterday.

Allasheed Allah, 54, admitted that he yelled homophobic slurs at the 20-year-old as she rode a Manhattan-bound E train and then followed her into the 71st Avenue station and attacked her in November of last year.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Nov. 20, Allah began to argue with the woman onboard the E train. When he saw a female friend kiss the woman on the cheek, he yelled at them, “kiss her again you dyke bitch!” and followed the pair into the station.

Allah then struck the victim in the head and chest, shoving her into a nearby pole, according to court records. The woman hit both the pole and ground, and sustained multiple injuries to both her head and back, including a fractured spine.

She has since recovered from the injuries, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office.

When questioned by the police after the incident, Allah admitted to pushing the victim because she was “disrespecting me with all that gay (expletive),” according to the charges.

Allah faces one to three years in prison at his sentencing on Nov. 7.

“In pleading guilty, the defendant has admitted to attacking a woman solely based on his belief that she was gay,” said acting District Attorney John Ryan. “This kind of hate-inspired assault is intolerable and we won’t stand for it here in Queens County – the most diverse county in the country.”

“The defendant will go to prison as a result of this vicious attack,” Ryan added. “The victim, I am happy to say, has recovered and hopefully will be able to put this horrible incident behind her forever.”

Let him serve in jail for his hateful crime. Maybe he will be someone’s “special friend” inside prison.
