National Night Out Against Crime to Take Place Across Queens Tuesday

Police precincts throughout Queens and across the city will celebrate the annual National Night Out Against Crime Tuesday.

Each precinct in Queens has an event planned where police officers will join residents to celebrate the neighborhood that they serve.

The National Night Out Against Crime, founded by the National Association of Town Watch, takes place annually in localities across the U.S. and Canada on the first Tuesday of August.

Find out how your local precinct is celebrating:

Long Island City (108th Precinct):

The 108th Precinct will host its celebration at the Andrews Grove Playground at 49th Avenue, between Vernon Boulevard and 5th Street. The activities, which will take place between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., include a bouncy castle, face painting, pony rides, various games, refreshments, giveaways, and a DJ.

Flushing (109th Precinct):

The 109th Precinct will host its festivities at Bowne Playground at P.S. 20 on Barclay Avenue at Union Street between 5 and 8 p.m. Attendees can play games, get their face painted, eat food, and enjoy other entertainment.

Corona (110th Precinct):

The 110th Precinct wants all attendees to meet near the zoo at Flushing Meadow Park at 111th Street and 56th Avenue. Activities will include carnival rides, a bouncy house, barbecue, a DJ, and some raffles and giveaways.

Forest Hills (112th Precinct):

The 112th precinct will be holding its event at MacDonald Park, between 69th Road and 70th Avenue from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The celebration will include children’s arts and crafts, performances and a tennis club exercise.

Astoria (114th Precinct):

The 114th Precinct will host two events. The first event will take place at the Queensbridge Houses at 40th Avenue, between 10th and 12th Streets from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. The activities will include a bouncy house, games, music, refreshments, and a performance from the Queensbridge Senior Shakers. The other event will take place on the Great Lawn in Astoria Park between Ditmars Boulevard and Astoria Park South from 5 to 8 p.m. It will feature pony rides, clown shows, a dunk tank, face painting, and refreshments.

Jackson Heights (115th Precinct):

The 115th Precinct will hold its event at Northern Boulevard Park off Northern Boulevard between 93rd and 94th Streets. The night will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. The celebration will feature bouncy houses, face painting, food, music, and additional crime prevention information.

Burglary crew sought for targeting drugstores in five different Queens precincts: NYPD

Police from five Queens precincts are looking for a pair of burglars who targeted independent mom-and-pop drugstores from Fresh Meadows to Astoria throughout December.

The two men allegedly broke into three drugstores in three different neighborhoods in a half-hour during the morning of Sunday, Dec. 15. While one stood guard outside a drugstore at 63-09 39th Avenue in Woodside, his partner broke through the glass front door at 5:50 a.m. Police from the 108th Precinct reported that he removed $400 in cash before leaving.
