A 26-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run at a Rego Park intersection last night, police said.
Sherena Hundalani, a resident of 98th Street, was walking on the sidewalk near 63rd Road and Queens Boulevard when a Lincoln Town Car leaving the Mobile gas station at that corner struck her at around 4:06 p.m. on Sunday.
The 55-year-old male driver of the 2005 Lincoln Town Car did not remain on the scene and fled westbound on Queens Boulevard, police said. He was ultimately stopped near 62nd Drive and Junction Boulevard, where he was then taken into custody for questioning.
Hundalani was already receiving emergency care by EMS by the time police arrived to the scene. EMS then transported her to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made and the investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing.

This is a hit and run. Why wasn’t he arrested for leaving the scene of an accident???? That corner has always been a nightmare.
that corner of 63rd and QB is a disaster! crazy drivers try to go thru the Mobile to avoid the intersection light, people cross at all times, disregarding the light, tlc plates do not yield to pedestrians…

This is an unacceptable tragedy. We are the greatest city and yet we tolerate this intersection that is worse than the third-world. It is awful for pedestrians and drivers, horrific danger posed by crossing against the light with traffic turning through the crosswalks, green taxis on one corner, buses, people driving through the Mobil station to avoid the red light waiting to turn right. It is crazy. We take our lives in our own hands to cross here with our family, or even to drive here and risk hitting someone. Please don’t let this young lady’s tragic end be for nothing. Occasional police at this corner pull over only a few blatant violators to give tickets. There are hundreds EACH DAY who run the red turn arrow from Queens Boulevard onto 63rd Road. Pay attention NYC and let’s do better!
he’s just going to claim some medical episode, or the sun got in his eyes, or he didn’t see her and get off with a slap on the wrist. Bad drivers should be have harder penalties like jail, heavy fines and/or the revocation of their licenses . Its a privilege not a right .
also, inb4 someone says “the congestion” from vision zero initiatives frustrates drivers and this was bound to happen .
