Police Called to Forest Hills Apartment Where 6-month-old is Pronounced Dead

Police are investigating the death of a Forest Hills baby who was declared dead at North Shore University Hospital last night.

Police received a 911 call to the home of Josephina Kalekhman, a six-month-old girl, at 76-35 113 St at 11:08 p.m. Thursday night.

Police say that Josephina’s mother thought her child was sound asleep in the bedroom they shared. However, when she entered her room she found Josephina unconscious and wedged between her own adult bed and the baby’s crib.

The mother told police that Josephina wasn’t breathing when she found her, then called 911 and attempted to perform CPR.

EMS arrived and transported the baby to North Shore University hospital where she was declared deceased.

Police said that there were no obvious signs of trauma.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death and the investigation is still ongoing.

Twenty people indicted in Queens-based $4.6M vehicle theft ring after three-year probe: DA

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.

Some of the vehicles were stolen from owners’ driveways, some with the keys or key fobs inside. The stolen vehicles were often sold through advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The defendants are charged in nine separate indictments for a total of 373 counts, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday.
