Chipotle on Austin Street to Fundraise for P.S. 196 Parent Association Tonight, Donating Fifty Percent of Sales to Organization

Dec. 14, 2016 By Christian Murray

In the spirit of giving, Chipotle’s Forest Hills location is donating 50% of its sales proceeds tonight to the P.S. 196Q Parent Association.

The fundraiser, which will take place between 3pm-9pm,  is a part of Chipotle’s Corporate Philantropy program.

Stephanie Cooper, Co-President of the P.S. 196 Parent Association, said the group reached out to Chipotle to set the fundraiser up in Novebmer.

“We are so appreciative that Chipotle has offered to help the children at P.S. 196Q,” Cooper said. “We are not the only school they’ve supported, so it’s wonderful that they do this.”

The Parent Association at the school uses funds throughout the year to put together gym-recess programs, sponsor holiday events for their students, and assist in the purchasing of new smartboards and computers for use in the classrooms.

Most recently, the P.S. 196Q Parent Association used funds to invite children’s author Stephanie Sorkin to the school. Sorkin visited students in the Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade classes, and read aloud pages from her book, “Frenemy Jane: The Sometimes Friend” which addresses bullying among kids.

Cooper said this is one of many examples of how the Parent Association at P.S. 196Q looks to help children at their school succeed.

“We have a very active P.A. community,” Cooper shared. “I have Meredith Kaback, our other Co-President, our entire board, and all the parent volunteers in our committees to thank for making these like these possible.”

Fadmia Camara, a General Manager at the Austin Street Chipotle location which opened in 2013, said she’s proud to be a part of the fundraiser.

“I love working for Chiptole because we reach out to our committees, and I don’t think any other company gives out 50% of their proceeds like we do,” Camara said.
