Coffee lovers rejoice!
Kew Gardens residents, Alexandra Rodionova and her husband Chetan, plan to open a café at 102-10 Metropolitan Avenue in the next few weeks that will serve traditional Viennese coffee. The space was currently occupied by Definitions Beauty Salon.
Still under construction, the business name “Poésie Café” (pronounced po-es-ee) was put up visibly outside the storefront window two weeks ago, and has begun attracting local interest.
“People from nearby stores have been dropping in, curious to see what we’re doing,” Rodionova said.
This will be the first business opened by the husband and wife duo, which has long been a dream of Alexandra’s since she immigrated from Eastern Europe.
“It has been a dream my whole life to open up my very own café,” she shared. “I have a degree from back home in restaurant services and hospitality, but here in this country, my dream will come true.”
The pair plan to open the shop by mid-January, and will be serving Julius-Meinil coffee, a high-end Austrian brand better known overseas according to Rodionova.
Sandwiches, bagels, salads, and desserts will also be sold, and the couple plan to offer delivery of freshly made juices to nearby homes in the area. Chetan is also hoping to offer freshly made peanut butter and jelly toast to interested customers.
The café will seat up to 18 customers. Additionally, there is likely to be outdoor seating in the spring.
