A 9-year old girl with terminal brain cancer was named an honorary member of the NYPD in Forest Hills yesterday.
Police honored Aniya Ardon, a 9-year-old with an astroblastoma tumor, at the 68-40 Austin Street station yesterday. The child posed for photos with police, including the commanding officer of Patrol Borough Queens North (PBQN) Juanita Holmes, and sat behind the wheel of a police car.
Ardon has battled with the cancer for the past two years, according to an Instagram post by the New York Police Department’s Hispanic Society.
The patrol borough took to Twitter to commemorate Ardon’s visit.
“Today PBQN sworn in our youngest female police officer Aniya Ardon 9 yrs old & terminally ill w/ brain cancer,” the message said. “Aniya [loves] and supports NYPD female officers, so it was our pleasure to meet her today & bring a smile to her face Her presence meant more to us than she will ever realize.”
Ardon, who is from Brooklyn, was also named a voluntary firefighter by the West Hamilton Beach Station, where her father, Alvin Quiles, is a volunteer firefighter.
For those who wish to help Ardon, a GoFundMe account has been set up to help fund her care.
