Japanese Restaurant on Queens Boulevard Temporarily Shut By Health Dept.

A Japanese restaurant located on Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills was ordered closed by the Health Department over the weekend.

Fuji Japanese Cuisine, located at 113-27 Queens Blvd., was ordered shut Saturday after an inspector found evidence of mice on the premises and that the restaurant was not keeping food stored at the appropriate temperatures.

The restaurant–which opened in 2010 and offers typical Japanese fare, such as sashimi, sushi and rolls–racked up 68 violation points and has been temporarily closed.

The department wrote it up for nine violations, the first five being deemed critical.

Sanitary Violations
1) Hot food item not held at or above 140º F.
2) Cold food item held above 41º F (smoked fish and reduced oxygen packaged foods above 38 ºF) except during necessary preparation.
3) Evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.
4) Food not protected from potential source of contamination during storage, preparation, transportation, display or service.
5) Food contact surface not properly washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any activity when contamination may have occurred.
6) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.
7) Pesticide use not in accordance with label or applicable laws. Prohibited chemical used/stored. Open bait station used.
8) Thawing procedures improper.
9) Plumbing not properly installed or maintained; anti-siphonage or backflow prevention device not provided where required; equipment or floor not properly drained; sewage disposal system in disrepair or not functioning properly.

Oh please. Don’t call it a Japanese restaurant. This is a glorified Chinese food joint. The only Japanese in this place is its name.
