Kew Gardens Music Teacher Found Dead Upstate, Police Investigating

An elementary school music teacher from Kew Gardens has been found dead upstate a week after he went missing.

Keith Johnson, 39, of Lefferts Boulevard, was found dead in a wooded area near Shandaken, New York on Sunday. 

Johnson was last seen at P.S. 29 Q at 125-10 23rd Ave. at 2:20 p.m. on May 4. His car was spotted driving over Throgs Neck Bridge at 10:30 a.m. the next day.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.

Some of the vehicles were stolen from owners’ driveways, some with the keys or key fobs inside. The stolen vehicles were often sold through advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The defendants are charged in nine separate indictments for a total of 373 counts, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday.
