The National and Eight Bands to Play Two-Day Concert in Forest Hills

April 10, 2018 By Tara Law

Grammy-winning indie rock band The National and eight other bands will headline a two-day concert at Forest Hills Stadium this September.

The National will headline ‘There’s No Leaving New York’ at the stadium on Sept. 29 and 30. The concert will also feature Future Islands, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Cat Power, Cigarettes After Sex, Phoebe Bridgers, U.S. Girls, Bully and Adia Victoria.

The National, which hails from Cincinnati, is known for its melancholy sound and thoughtful lyrics. The band won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album this year for the band’s seventh album, Sleep Well Beast.

The most recent album represents the band at its most experimental, according to an interview with band members published on the Forest Hills Stadium event page.

“Some of it’s about marriage, some of it’s about my relationship with Aaron and the band, some of it’s about train tracks and dancing,” said vocalist Matt Berninger.

“It was important that we genuinely explore new territory and risk falling on our faces, or not make a record at all,” said Aaron Dessner, who plays the guitar and keyboard. “This album feels complete to me.”

The concert lineup also features popular indie rock and pop bands such as Future Islands, which gained attention for its fifth album The Far Field, which included hit song “Seasons (Waiting on You).” Acclaimed musician Charlyn Marie Marshall— who plays under the name Cat Power— will also be performing. She recently released the album Sun.

Tickets will be available for presale until Thursday. General ticket sales begin Friday at 10 a.m. The cost of tickets for the two-day show ranges from $130 for general admission to $350 for VIP tickets.
