Kew Gardens Chicken Temporarily Closed by Health Department

A Kew Gardens restaurant that specializes in chicken and southern cooking has been closed temporarily by the Health Department.

Kew Gardens Chicken at 80-45 Kew Gardens Road, which is also known as Chicken House, was closed by the department after an inspection on March 16.

The inspector found several violations, including live roaches. The restaurant received 42 violation points.

The inspector found the following sanitary violations. The first two were listed as critical.

1) Live roaches present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas.

2) Hand washing facility not provided in or near food preparation area and toilet room. Hot and cold running water at adequate pressure to enable cleanliness of employees not provided at facility. Soap and an acceptable hand-drying device not provided.

3) Facility not vermin proof. Harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.
