16-year-old Charged for Shooting Threat at Forest Hills High School

A Jamaica teen has been arrested and charged after allegedly threatening to commit a school shooting at Forest Hills High School.

Ishrak Hossain, 16, was charged with making a terroristic threat and criminal mischief, police said. Forest Hills High School at 67-01 110th St. went on a “soft” lockdown yesterday after a note was discovered in a school desk. The note “threatened similar violence to the school shooting that took place in Florida last month,” the police said.

The police thoroughly searched the school after discovering the threat, but no weapon was found.  Police from the 112th precinct ultimately called the threat a “hoax.”

Councilmember Karen Koslowitz praised the officers’ quick action.

“Threats of gun violence against students can never be taken lightly,” Koslowitz said in a statement. “That’s why I want to take this opportunity to praise the work of the 112th Police Precinct and its Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Robert Ramos, for their quick action in collaborating with school officials, assessing the situation, ensuring everyone remained calm, and quickly containing a situation that could have escalated out of control, considering the timing of the threat, which occurred just one day after thousands of students citywide held walkouts in protest of gun-violence.”

A spokesperson from the Queens District Attorney’s office said that Hossain will be arraigned later today.
