Man who stockpiled arsenal at Rego Park apartment sentenced to 2 years prison, DA says

Dec. 7, 2016 Staff Report

A Rego Park man was sentenced to two years prison today after pleading guilty in October to criminal possession of a weapon.

Guo H. Shou, 34, of 65-60 Wetherole Street, was charged earlier this year after authorities searched his apartment and found 14 licensed handguns, two loaded shotguns, 45,000 rounds of ammunition, 225 pounds of smokeless gun powder, unassembled assault rifles and bullet making equipment.

The police conducted the search after initially visiting Shou’s apartment as part of a routine administrative pistol licensee review. Upon that visit, officers observed hundreds of pounds of smokeless gunpowder, an assault rifle and high-capacity magazines and ammunition laying in plain sight.

“The defendant admitted his guilt and now has been punished for stockpiling an arsenal of unsecured weapons in his apartment – just a few short blocks from an elementary school [PS 139],” said Queens District Attorney Richard A Brown.

“The amount of gunpowder recovered in the defendant’s apartment alone was capable of igniting and causing significant damage to not only the defendant’s apartment but to neighboring apartments.”

District Attorney Brown said that, according to the charges, Shou did not have a federal firearms license as a gun dealer and is not licensed to sell or manufacture firearms or ammunition.  None of the items seized will be returned to him, the District Attorney noted.
