A Mexican restaurant serving traditional family recipes is opening in Forest Hills next month.
Compadres will open at 115-20 Queens Blvd and serve authentic Mexican dishes– from tacos to chicken with mole poblano.
The restaurant will take the space that was occupied by Tuscan Hills for nine years, which moved to 110-60 Queens Blvd in August.
Compadres owner Juan Flores, 42, is originally from Puebla, Mexico and has lived in the U.S. for 25 years. He has one other restaurant, also called Compadres, which he opened in Ozone Park 10 years ago.
Flores’ family moved to the U.S. when he was a teenager and they brought with them their culinary tradition. They had operated a restaurant in Mexico.
Although Compadres is primarily Mexican, it will incorporate items from other parts of Latin America, such as plantains, as well as American food like strip steak.
The key to authentic Mexican food, Flores said, is the sauce and salsa. Flores is especially proud of the restaurant’s mole poblano, a special sauce consisting of chili peppers and chocolate.
“My mother gave me the recipe, that’s why it’s so delicious,” Flores said.
The restaurant will not serve alcohol, which Flores describes as being a distraction from the food.
“You don’t need to drink a margarita, you don’t need to serve beer. You need to focus on the food,” Flores said.
The restaurant will have 46 seats, and food will also be available for takeout and delivery.
