Yellowstone Hardware, a Forest Hills institution that opened more than 60 years ago, closed Friday following a merger with a New Rochelle-based firm.
The store, located at 71-54 Yellowstone Blvd, was founded in 1954 by Erick Liebenstein and is currently owned and operated by his two sons. The business also had a storage facility at 67-47 Alderton Street, which has been sold.
Yellowstone now operates a joint store with Pearlgreen, the company it merged with, at 30 Pine Street in New Rochelle. Pearlgreen was founded in 1934 by Irving and Pearl Greenberg.
The Leibensteins said that the merger will help them provide a more efficient service by virtue of an expanded delivery fleet and a more extensive product line.
