Forest Hills frozen yogurt store Vanilla Sky closed last week.
The store, located at 70-35 Austin Street, had been in business since 2013 offering frozen yogurt, shakes, coffee and pastries in its bright, corner space.
The owner said that the rent was currently $10,000 and that the landlord was wanted to hike it significantly when the lease was up in two years. He said the negotiations had reached impasse.
The landlord could not be reached for comment.
The closure follows the owner shutting down Vanilla Sky’s other operation in Astoria. The Astoria location opened in 2012 and was impetus for a Forest Hills.

We need a supermarket on 63rd Road and 98th St in Rego Park. The store has been closed for almost 3 years. The rent is so high no business will rent. It is zoned for a market.
There is a rather long story to that property. The last reliable info I received beginning of Nov is that it will be occupied for a few months by the current “bookstore” and then turned into a supermarket again, possibly by summer.

The rents on Austin Street are sky high, and this is why you see stores closing on Austin Street every other week.
They closed their astoria location too.
That is how NY kill the business not nice !!
