FDNY: Man dies after fleeing from fire in Forest Hills apartment, another sent to hospital in critical condition

A man whose Forest Hills apartment building caught fire is dead after he attempted to flee his unit while covered in flames this morning, according to FDNY.

Ramon Rahim, 59, was pronounced dead after he was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in front of 111-29 66th Ave. The FDNY arrived at the building at a little after 10:20 a.m.

Another victim, a 30-year-old male, was found with burns to his face and arms, according to the FDNY. The victim was transported to New York-Presbyterian/Queens hospital in critical condition. He is now stable, according to police.

An FDNY spokesperson said witnesses saw Rahim run out into the courtyard engulfed in flames before he collapsed. Other witnesses told the FDNY that the 30-year-old victim jumped from the window of the second floor apartment.

The fire was under control by 10:53 p.m., according to the FDNY spokesman. In total, 12 units with 60 firefighters responded to the incident.

The FDNY is currently investigating what caused the fire.

Police from the 112th Precinct in Forest Hills and Transit District 20 are looking for a suspect who allegedly flashed a 13-year-old girl on a Queens subway train last month.

The victim was riding a southbound E train approaching the Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike station at around 1 p.m. on Monday, June 30, when she saw a stranger exposing himself to her, police said Wednesday. The perpetrator ran off the train at the Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike station and fled in an unknown direction. The youngster was not injured during her encounter with the stranger.
