Queens Night Market

Sept. 9, 2017 By Tara Law

The Queens Night Market returns on Sept. 30 for its fall season.

More than 40 food vendors serving dishes from around the world are confirmed to attend. In addition to food, the market will feature musical acts; a beer and wine garden; as well as games and activities. The price of most dishes served at the market is capped at five dollars.

Admission to the Night Market is free, but a five dollar donation to the American Cancer Society fundraiser as part of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign is suggested.

The Night Market will take place at the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park from 6 p.m. to midnight each Saturday–starting Sept. 30– through October 28, when it closes for the season with a Halloween bash.

The market has been on hiatus in recent times due to the U.S. Open and Maker Faire.

Currently, 130 local vendors rotate at the market. On average, about 9,000 people have visited the market each Saturday this year.

Since the market began three years ago, vendors representing 80 different countries have been represented.

The upcoming event will continue this international tradition with Nigerian jollof rice by Obe, Indonesian coconut pancakes by Moon Man, keema palatas by Burmese Bites, “ramly” burgers by the Malaysian Project, Bengali fuchka by Jhal NYC, Romanian chimney cakes by TwisterCake, Valencian paella by In Patella, and crispy Persian rice by Joon.

The market will also feature dishes by new vendors such as ramen by Tojo Kitchen, Haitian fried pork by Tania’s Kitchen, Russian pelmeni by Put-In-Dumplings, and Peruvian ceviche by Don Ceviche.

This fall, the market will feature musical acts such DJs Lil Buddy and Jordan Knoxx, blues by Brewster Moonface, indie rock by the New Arlenes, classic rock from Test Tracks, quirky jazz from LittleHat.BigHat, Bengali dance troupes, and a performance by NYC volunteer choir Peace of Heart.
