Cheese of the World, which has been on Austin Street for more than 60 years, is currently for sale.
The store, which will remain open until a buyer is found, sells more than 250 cheeses as well as cured meats and olives, is listed on the Multiple Listing Service website as currently for sale.
The store owner would not comment as to why he’s selling.

This year, I really found my favorite cheeses at “Cheese of the World”. I really enjoy the entire Cheese World Family………They represent ” The Best Of Small Business Owners”, and it is a shame that small business owners, like our Cheese Family Owners, are fading too quickly…………Kinda like that part of America is dying………So Sad………..Hope the next owners maintain that classy, modest, and The customers are important quality……..I think their ‘Human Touch” is what kept return customers…….LANDLORDS – Don’t Wipe Out USA’s small business owners. You’re killing part of an American Tradition !
I do hope that it will continue as a cheese and cold-cut store. I like their offerings. We need rhese smaller retail stores to retain some semblance of small town Forest Hills. Too bad that only banks and big chain stores seem to be able to afford the high rents. It ruins the ambiance of FH.
Wow I used to go there weekly back in the day. I also go all of my cheeses there for holiday parties, dinners or just if I was in the mood for cheese and olives! The best!!
I was a loyal customer when I lived in FH. Garlic cheddar was my favorite.
So do I, great selections, reasonable prices, hope new owners would keep the same, but will probably be another bank ?
Or another disgusting chain restaurant. …or another cheap store
