Pedestrian struck and killed by bus at Union Turnpike Friday while chasing after skateboard

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a bus at the intersection of Union Turnpike and Grand Central Parkway Friday evening, after dropping his skateboard and trying to retrieve it from the road.

Kevin Zeng, a 25-year-old Flushing resident, was walking on the sidewalk near the intersection at around 6:30 pm when he dropped his skateboard and chased it as it rolled into the travel lanes. He was struck by an MTA bus that was traveling southbound on Union Turnpike, according to police.

Police arrived on the scene to find Zeng lying on the roadway with severe head injuries. EMS transported him to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The bus driver remained on the scene and was not charged.

Daniel Moore, 39, of Cunningham Avenue, was riding a black 2010 Harley-Davidson Super Glide traveling eastbound on the highway through Highland Park when he failed to navigate the roadway near Cypress Avenue and struck a concrete divider, police said Thursday. The impact ejected Moore from the bike.
