Forest Hills residents will no longer have to travel to Long Island City or Astoria to enjoy a beer outside.
Peter Massaro, owner of Cobblestones Pub, said that he is planning to covert the backyard space at his 117-18 Queens Blvd establishment into a German-style beer garden.
The pub currently has a 4,000 square foot backyard that includes a basketball court. Massaro plans to transform that area into a beer garden and add live music and TVs.
While construction has not yet begun, he said he will be hiring an architect soon and hopes to open by the end of summer. However, he said it is more likely to open in 2018.
Massaro said that several beer gardens have opened in Queens and Brooklyn in recent years and he felt it was imperative that there is one in Forest Hills.
“There’s so many places [beer gardens] in Astoria and LIC that we’re trying to bring back the business to Forest Hills,” he commented. “It’s something that the community is craving.”
Community Board 6 has approved Cobblestones’ plan for the beer garden.
